Fabricaal– FÁBRICA ALENTEJANA DE LANIFÍCIOS

Where the last Alentejo blankets are still woven

Founded in 1930, Fabricaal is now the last place in Portugal where Alentejo blankets are still woven entirely by hand. Using Portuguese merino wool and century-old looms, the factory continues to reinvent tradition through a contemporary approach to textiles, resulting in creations sought after by designers, architects and hotels around the world.

The story

The legacy of Alentejo weaving

**Meet the Maker**

Queremos dar a conhecer as pessoas por detrás dos lugares.

Em breve, esta secção reunirá retratos, histórias e testemunhos dos produtores, artesãos e equipas que dão vida a cada visita!

At Fabricaal, it is possible to discover the last factory in Portugal where traditional Alentejo blankets continue to be woven by hand on 11 century-old semi-manual looms. Set inside a former 19th-century olive oil mill converted into a workshop, the space offers a rare opportunity to encounter artisans preserving techniques and knowledge that have almost disappeared. Each piece reflects a strong connection between raw material, craftsmanship and regional heritage.
